Former Camper Brittany Bassinger makes US U20 National Team
Congratulations to Brittany Bassinger on making the US Women's U20 National Team. Brittany, who is playing at Penn State, was coached by Soccer Academy President Paul Ellis on the U19 SYA Hotspurs recently and has been coached by Paul since U10.
The FIFA U-20 Women’s World Cup is held in even-numbered years. The United States has won two of the past three tournaments, most recently with a 1-0 victory over Japan in 2012. This will be the first U-20 Cup for all five locals, though Basinger, Purce and Sullivan all played for the United States at the 2012 U-17 World Cup in Azerbaijan.
Basinger, the 2012 Virginia Gatorade Player of the Year while at Woodgrove, started for Penn State as a freshman outside back last season. An All-Big Ten freshman pick, Basinger scored her first U-20 goal earlier this year in the midst of the Americans’ run to the CONCACAF U-20 title.
